Passion for Words

 

My passion for reading triggered my love for words and language. I studied English Literature, Linguistics, and Education at University, which led to an early career as an English-language specialist. This involved teaching and designing learning materials for English Second Language (ESL), English Foreign Language (EFL), and English 1st Language students in Higher Education (HE).

​I moved on to lecture Business English, Management Communication, and other business subjects in HE. I am a strong advocate of real-life teaching and teaching transferable skills. I also believe that teaching never ends because learning never ends.​

​

Progress in my career led to course and curriculum development projects and culminated in educational management at the college level. I enjoyed the challenges and problem-solving aspects of academic leadership, managing and mentoring a diverse group of lecturers across varied disciplines.

A few years later, I took a long break from my formal career to be a stay-at-home mum, carting my kids around to school and various after-school activities. During this time, I indulged my love for reading, research, and writing by developing content for textbooks as a part-time freelancer. I co-wrote ten College-level textbooks for Macmillan, Oxford, Heinemann, Pearson, and Juta.​

I must admit, I rather enjoyed the multi-tasking and the adrenaline rush of meeting deadlines – coffee helped!​

 

Now that my kids have flown the coop, I've thrown myself into exploring new challenges and ways to share my knowledge and experience. My unique blend of creativity and analytical thinking allows me to approach problems from unexpected angles and deliver results that go beyond expectations.

I live in a little seaside town in South Africa, but my clients are scattered across the globe. In my free time, I enjoy reading (once a bookworm, always a bookworm), exploring new places, and spending time with my family and friends. Long walks on the beach help me clear my head and get inspiration for my next project. ​​​​​​
